This Monday Herman Bergwerf, Dutch winner of INESPO 2011, leaves to Brazil to participate in the MOSTRATEC olympiad to compete with hundreds of students from all over the world. He will present his project Plastic to Power which amazed the INESPO jury in June 2011.
The student of the Calvijn College (Goes, the Netherlands) presented his project at June 27 and 28. His project is about removing and recycling huge amounts of plastics in the ocean. Herman developed a system to use air flotation so that the plastic will rise to the surface, so that it can be removed more easily. Besides that he developed a mechanism to recylce the plastic into oil. Although he was one of the youngest participants in INESPO, his project Plastic to Power amazed the jury chaired by Rob van Hattum (president Science Center Nemo). Therefore he won the first prize, consisiting of participation in the MOSTRATEC olympiad.
Herman will be accompanied by two of his school's teachers. He is very looking forward it and is very curious about what position he can achieve in the international field of competitors. He will present his project from October 25 to 27. After that, the awards will be anounced at October 28 & 29.
Besides Herman, also two students of the Drachtster Lyceum (Drachten, the Netherlands) will compete in this competion, namely Lyance de Jong (17) and Kyra Broeders (18). They have won the fourth prize in INESPO 2010. Their project is called The Sunfollower.
